Rules of Play
Teams: Play singles (one player on each side) or doubles (two players on each side).
Starting the Game: To determine the first server, players can take turns hitting the shuttlecock back and forth. The player who first successfully serves the shuttlecock into the opponent’s court starts the game.
Serving: The server must hit the shuttlecock underarm and diagonally into the opponent’s service area. Players can choose to serve from anywhere behind the service line.
Gameplay: Players take turns hitting the shuttlecock over the net. The aim is to land the shuttlecock in the opponent’s side of the court. There are no strict boundaries—if the shuttlecock lands close to the boundary, consider it in!
Scoring: Play to 15 points. A player scores a point if the shuttlecock lands in the opponent’s court and the opponent fails to return it. Play continues until a player reaches 15 points or as long as players want to enjoy the game.
Winning: The game ends when a player or team reaches 15 points, but feel free to play more rounds for fun!
Have Fun: Encourage players to try different shots and techniques, such as underhand serves or overhead smashes. Consider adding challenges or “vintage style” penalties for laughs, like having to serve with one hand behind the back.
Extra Tips: Encourage players to wear vintage-inspired outfits for added fun and theme. Set up a small refreshment area nearby for players to take breaks, enjoy snacks, and socialize. Capture the moments with a vintage-style camera or filter to remember the day!
